Weston & Mendip Advanced Motorists were formed in 1983 with the specific aim of improving the standard and safety of motoring, and promoting the IAM motto - "Skill with Responsibility".
New members join the group through the “Skill for Life” package as an Associate and are then given personal guidance and assistance by the Group's own voluntary trained Observers. The assigned Observer accompanies the Associate on a number of runs, each lasting about one to one and a half hours. During these runs, the Observer notes and compliments good routines and seeks out, discusses and helps to eradicate those bad habits developed over the years, whilst honing observation skills and car/driver sympathy to bring the Associate up to the standard required to pass the Advanced Driving Test. The Skill for Life subscription includes the provision of Theory Courses, which consist of four consecutive Monday evenings.
The aims of our group are simple, to make road users more aware of traffic and road conditions both well ahead and surrounding your vehicle, thereby making you more observant
